I get your sentiments, but I also have (almost) no doubt things are going to get worse. Trump can't stop trumping, and the economy is precarious. The AI bubble could burst any day now.
Mandani is the first politician I have been excited about since Obama. Having someone unapolagetically tell the billionaires to fuck off and still win power makes me so happy. Never thought I'd see such a thing again.
If we were guaranteed free and fair elections in 2026, I would still be turning cartwheels. But we are so far from being out of the woods. For the redesigning and rebuilding required, maybe that’s a good thing.
Greatest post perhaps ever, Michael. Sorry for my earlier crankiness and smarmy comments over Gaza. The dead innocents just overwhelmed me, and I’ve been out of my mind the past two months over a major surgery I just successfully had this Monday. I was fearing death and it was a real possible of dying in the or despite great docs. Chemo next but you’ll hear no more beyotch ing from moi. You’re smarter than I and are able to verbalize the feelings I cannot. Kudos on the advice to the Dems. I wouldn’t be a dem if I didn’t feel as you stated. I’ll be upping my subscription in June again now for the third time. In hospital I was thinking how you explained my Saul from Homeland retirement dilemma so well as I have mentioned then. Retired last December. Just got home from hospital this afternoon. I hope you accept my apologies as to being overwhelmed by Gaza photos and real facts. Not maga/israel facts.
Great thoughtful smartness as always, Michael. You are wise to approach this moment guardedly, though I have to permit myself a couple-three days of joy and a couple-three glasses of champagne, if only as a brief respite from the persistent madness, before settling into cautious vigilant optimism. The protest signs aren’t getting put away anytime soon.
“I wouldn’t be a Democrat if I couldn’t extract some bad from this moment of joy”. You said it, brother. Last night I’m feeling total exuberance. The cold light of today reminds me that people are still fickle, still gullible, still mostly uninformed, and November 2026 is light years away.
Something tells me trump and his toadies are not capable of even pretending to mildly rein it in/keep his mouth shut. It’s definitely gonna get keep getting worse but last night was not nuthin’.
In 2017, this happened and _was a precursor to Dems surging in 2018. As a result , 4547 is explicitly pushing voter suppression. The fight isn't over by a long stretch, but last night was still important
It’s so funny and predictable. Good results for Democrats are bad… and bad results for Democrats are bad. My husband makes fun of me for always catastrophizing… but there is always some truth to this. Hard to feel happy when Trump and Trumpism still prevails…
It was a positive—our first in a while, and I will enjoy it for as long as I can, even if it’s only ‘til the weekend. Best wishes to all the victorious Dem candidates, I truly hope they do their jobs well.
It probably does need to get worse. I always come back to Alabama's Senate elections in recent years, where they barely voted in a Democrat former prosecutor over the teen mall sex pest, only to throw him out in favor of the football coach the first chance they got. The bar is high to get anyone, blue or red, to vote against whom they've always voted for.

Ditto
As Josh Johnson said, wall street spent more to stop mandani than he wants to tax them.

Best wishes on your healing Groovemaster.
Thank you, my friend. I'm gonna live a lot longer. Wasn;t sure about that Sunday! Thank you, Faith.

My reaction to the election results was relief, not celebration. More Phew! than Yahoo!.
But since I live every day in worrisome anticipation of what Orange Satan will do next, relief is good enough for now.
Well done on the deep cut Robin Williams reference. :)

I vote for taping his mouth shut. Last night is the foundation. It’s finished and passed inspection. Now, let’s finish the job.
