Near where I live in Georgia, a small town that backed Trump by 75% is now freaking out that DHS has bought a huge warehouse there for a detention center. The number of detainees will triple the town's population and there is no way to expand water and other infrastructure needs to cover it.
Their concerns are being brushed aside. How can they be surprised?
I very much share this wretched bag of mixed feelings and qualms!
My sincere concern is that Homan’s words of reassurance will direct the news cycle while the overt spectacles on the ground “moderate” — but remain unconstitutional & abusive as all hell!
This agency is still funded to the hilt and, is recruiting aggressively, and as you correctly note, is buying up warehouse space for human beings at an alarming clip. By any definition, they are building a paramilitary force and system of concentration camps.
They clearly intend to deploy these resources — it’s just not clear yet what that will look like. Will they be smart and cool it until the midterms? Or enact a massive crackdown over the summer to try to scare people away from the polls? The latter would seem more in keeping with the recklessness we have increasingly seen from this White House. But I don’t underestimate Trump’s instinct for self-preservation, either.
We should all keep our guard and our spirits very much up.
I so feel your long, calm side eye written here Michael. The introspection shows. My blood pressure is back to 120/70 albeit temporarily I’m sure, as we wait for the next shoe to drop. 🩵
As someone who lives in Saint Paul and has been closely involved in opposing ICE, I can say that no one here believes in the drawdown or that this is over. When the feds supposedly were pulling out 700 troops, we had one of the busiest weekend of abductions all year.
And Tuesday was an incredibly busy day for ICE, between snatching people off the streets and bus stops to causing the multi car accident in Saint Paul that critically injured one man.
I would ask you, and all media members, to use your words carefully because the "retreat" as you call it, is not one we anticipate seeing. The fear is that they will reduce the number of troops here slightly, will continue to kidnap people, and the world will move on.
In the meantime, our neighbors will continue to be terrorized and some in the resistance movement are worried that local law enforcement will become even more of an antagonist for the constitutional observers (please do not call us protestors) who are merely trying to document these crimes.
Long story short, this ain't over. Not by a long shot
🍊💩 as usual, caved. Get ready for the next act of cruel stupidity. Love the creativity of Minneapolis and Portland, two cities known for their beauty and proud quirkiness. Check out The Electric Fetus in Minneapolis and Powell’s Books in Portland. After the invasion and aftermath, both cities need visitors. You’ll not be disappointed.
It has been a long few months here in the Cities. I have really enjoyed your posts, and for someone not on the ground here, you seem to "get it." Along with your post on the WHY of Greenland, it was more than enough to get a paid subscription out of me. Thanks for your serious but yet somehow lighthearted outlook on things going on at this time. I really appreciate the pick-me-ups.
Special thanks to the Smitten Kitten here in Minneapolis. They have done so much work collecting supplies for people in need, as well as coming up with bulk supplies of dildos, where I suspect a good number of the flying members may have came from.. Sort of the Army Surplus of dildos.
They seem to be concentrating all their anger at PR/Bad Bunny right now. The rhetoric surrounding it is perfectly ridiculous, but I do fear for my Puerto Rican neighbors and friends. As if they weren't being targeted already by white nationalism.

Thank you for wearing the Minnesota state flag pin on Have I Got News for You S4E4.

Yes. I’m in the Cities, too, and we’re going to have to see change before we believe it.
This is great! Thank you!!!
Trump is to Minneapolis as Nixon was to Vietnam: Declare victory abd get the fuck out before things get more embarrassing than they already are.

Drumpf has never had the attention span to follow through on anything longer than 15 minutes.
Plus, as Lee pointed out, “magic boomerang dildos” are REALLY FUNNY!! Which as we know, nothing obliterates their desire to make us afraid like humor!

Did not know about the dildos. Thanks. Man, Minnesota showed us all how to do it.
It was the magic boomerang dildos.
They wanted a massive show of brutality to keep the masses in line. They believe it worked.
I suspect they know it did not.
But they do lie whenever it creates a more convenient story.
