I know this is trite, but it has kept me going these past 10 years.

FRODO: What are we holding on to, Sam?

SAM: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.

I was just saying to someone yesterday that the way dude keeps manipulating the market in his favor is a bit spooky, like if he gets enough rope & then brings prices at the pump down in another month, mind you, not back to where they were, but just a buck lower so it is felt like a savings compared to this, he might pull off gaslighting his base that he did something & he will claim he denuked Iran regardless of any outcome, short of them using a nuke, it’s like his Roy Cohn ghost is always over his shoulder helping him to keep moving thru the fire with asbestos underwear…meanwhile, oil executives are gonna collect record bonuses this year, this guy’s bullshit is never ending & diabolical…

I woke up early this morning in Ballyhaunis Ireland to make my flight home to LAX. I’m so fucking sad to go home. It’s just not right

I hear you, feeling quite the same. The neverending bullshit & lies are overwhelming. and I agree with Larry about the 4th turning...

The 4th Turning is here 😣

Yeah, I didn't want to believe in the Fourth Turning, but it's arrived right on schedule.

We’re certainly living through something. We know it’s not good. We pray we survive it. You’re stating what we’re feeling well.

Overwhelmed is the Trump goal. It's exhausting. Bannon brazenly told us that some time ago.

Instead, be whelmed — the middle ground between underwhelmed and overwhelmed. It's a word, I looked it up.

So yes, refresh your mind, body, and spirits with watching or playing sports, eating ice cream, walking, writing, baking, decluttering, working on voter turnout, shaking your fist at the sky, [insert gerund here].

Gigi Flor replied earlier, "Going to a museum helped me. In fact, I decided to become a member, and I plan to visit more often." That's a brilliant way to stay whelmed in the face of it all.

Michele, I assume that you are still in Italy so you are still Michele.

I get it! I usually find something fun to reply, but today I can only comment on your quotes.

"the country that’s been a pariah state for 47 years" Is that us?

"Putin’s military is now depleted, his economy a shambles, the nation on a communications lock down," Kinda like something said about Iran

"On top of everything else, RFK is over there playing with raccoon dicks." OK, that's just hilarious

There's lots more but I'll finish with "You know what else helps? Ice cream" True Dat!

Even ‘humiliated the office of President’ feels inadequate to describe what he’s done. ‘Pissed all over it’ seems more in line. Will also accept ‘beaten black and blue with hubris and then danced all over the remains’.

You'd think guys hitting each other in the face could be a respite from politics, but in 1982, I got sucker punched at a closed circuit showing in southern California for cheering when Larry Holmes knocked out Gerry Cooney. And, of course, UFC is its own cultural signpost. And NASCAR. And . . .

I feel your pain. I posted a video the other day by a young woman who basically had a stream-of-consciousness nervous breakdown about the state of our government/world/existence. It was both hilarious and upsetting simultaneously. The kind of dark humor that is forged from suffering and incredulity. I would like to think this is going to be peacefully resolved--and by "this" I mean the Trump grifter show--but I'm more inclined to believe it will ultimately be a revolution. People at the bottom getting squeezed economically within an inch of their lives has historically never boded well for the powers-that-be; I suspect that will also be the case here.
