They don’t give AF is how. They pretend to be xians but they aren’t. They have no souls. And that book in which they believe describes Trump to a T: he’s the beast. And they think he’s the chosen one. If the chosen one can lie every single time he speaks, they all can. Sex offenders lie all the time to everyone as a matter of staying out of prison or to keep from getting their asses kicked…it’s their nature
In a way, these “flood the zone” fuckers have done us a favor. By showing us how deep and wide and how far back the lies go, we’ve learned, finally, that it simply doesn’t matter what a politician says he or she believes. You have to watch ‘em every minute, and you have to vote. The Democrats deserve to lose, but the Republicans deserve prison haircuts. So vote. And be loud.
We've dulled it before and we'll need to dull it again. This has been brewing for some time. The pimple finally popped but this time we're going to have to do some deep digging to root out this one.
This brought me back to a bit of ancient history—back to 1984. Not the Orwell version, but to Democratic nominee Walter Mondale, who, faced with a popular incumbent as his opponent decided to try for radical honesty and stated that, if elected, he would raise taxes. The economy was going well but deficits were on the rise and in those days, people thought of debt as a bad thing, especially when there wasn’t a war or depression going on. Mr Mondale got, as Obama might say, shellacked. Sometimes people don’t just accept lies but demand them. The American people have long been on a “less taxes, more spending” kick for decades that has always ended with less taxes on the wealthy and more spending on the military.
Right... like saying; if Iran had a nuclear weapon there would be no NBC. Sure thing, Grampa. If I'm Iran, I'm looking at a nuclear weapon as th only thing preventing me from becoming th next Gaza.
Have you read The Cult of Trump by cult expert Dr. Steven Hassan yet, Michael? It answers many of the whys. MAGA is a literal mind control cult, it’s been actively developed by fascist-minded horrible people for decades, and we’re now well into its culmination. I can’t recommend the book strongly enough — I wish everyone would read it.
Unfortunately, the only body of people that can hold a politician's feet to the fire is the voters. Until the voters quit accepting the lies (or the repeating or those lies in the press), there is nothing that can be done.
The only "legal" form of lying within our Government is during Congressional debate, which is protected by the Speech or Debate Clause in Article 1 of the Constitution. This clause does not encourage lying, but it does grant lawmakers immunity from civil or criminal liability for their words. I would very much like someone to explain to me why this clause exists or should continue to exist.
I'm reminded of Trump's Truth Social post of him flying around dumping shit on American citizens. Not everyone is inured to the fabrications spewing from the Administration. I have friends (Yes, friends. I'm determined to keep talking with them) who believe in their hearts that Iran is an existential threat, that "Antifa" is a real subversive organization, that illegal immigrants are dangerous criminals and that Democrats stole the 2020 election and every other one in which they have been victorious. As Goebbels famously did NOT say, if you repeat a lie often enough people will believe it.
I know it’s been said ad nauseam. But we really ARE!
And in a cult, everyone runs a tight ship of make believe. Some people do believe their own lies too. Anyone with family who are Trump supporters from the core (not the oligarchs or politicians who are simply piggybacking) knows this; just like religious people see a Jesus’ silhouette in a bitten cheese sandwich, MAGA people can’t see Trump for what he is. He’s a God like figure who can’t do wrong!
They just can’t. The indoctrination and ignorance is just too strong. They are literally impaired at this point.
I just don’t know how we are going to get rid of it. Even by winning elections fair and square, Democrats and former Republicans who haven’t drunk the Kool-Aid will have a lot to clean up. From a weaponized and politicized Supreme Court, the gerrymandering and underrepresentation that keeps people of color and marginalized communities from participating in democracy and the fact that our system seems to simply have depended on people doing decent and rational things and abide by the law. No checks and balances. Everyone is a paid prostitute.
It will take generations to purge society and democracy of this cancer.
Here's why “If I were to run, I’d run as a Republican. They’re the dumbest group of voters in the country. They believe anything on Fox News. I could lie and they’d still eat it up. I bet my numbers would be terrific. - Donald Trump, People Magazine, 1998”
This times a million. I stare at them, agog, every time, unable to comprehend why they think any of this is OK. I refuse to accept it as OK.

I wish Steve Bannon would supplant Benedict Arnold as the new American standard for traitor.

Reminds me of a quote from the redoubtable I. F. Stone: “All governments lie!”

I haven't but this isn't a Trump problem. It's as cultural problem which Trump has exacerbated.
A very scary dystopian cultural apocalyptic problem he has exacerbated. The justice system is still working but it’s s shadow of its former self.
Book goes into depth on all of that! Hassan is extremely well-researched. It’s worth your time, I swear!

We are under a cult.

Well said. Keep saying it. Please.

Larry is correct, that quote is fake. The guy has said so, so many horrible, stupid, outlandish things we should stick to quoting the real ones.
I don’t think this is an actual quote, although it’s true. They are dumbasses.
You're forgetting the people who wallow in the shit and, through Trump, crap vicariously all over the place.
