Oy Vey.....how about something intelligent to read?

It’s VERY long, but worth it, IMHO

Also, Tom Petty was liberal. Probably just as much as Swift, but he’s dead… so I guess that makes it safe for them to say he was good? Surely, if it was 1979 again, the article would have blasted the music of Tom Petty, Elo, and any other former Wilbury as the end of morality!

Michael, if you have written about this before please point me in that direction; but after learning in this post that we are nearly the same age; I wonder what you think about what you and the others were able to create during your time with "The State." I know that it would purely be nostalgia to acclaim it "the greatest sketch comedy show evah" but there were some absurd and truly funny moments I remember. $200 worth of pudding, Doug, "I'm going to shoot..." I still no well enough not to even joke about that. Do you remember it fondly? Do moments make you cringe? Thanks for the laughs. Thank you for continuing to use your voice.

i enjoy your writing!

i particularly appreciate (among many others) this sentence:

"And there is nothing worse for family values than a loving heterosexual couple."

“(positions myself near the closest fainting couch)” kind of implies that you have more than one fainting couch and now I am envious.

Expand full comment

I have many fainting couches. All velvet.

Oh sure, just rub your wealth in my face. Elitist. *sob*

Well, now I need not one but at least two velvet fainting couches. My daughter took her red velvet fainting couch off to college many moons ago and we’ve been lacking that in our lives ever since.

I was in the “I hate that this girl is ruining my

Football” camp, but it’s so exhausting, and they are so happy together. It’s easier to root for them and keep loving football.

Honest question (I swear): How did it seem she was ruining football? I’m guessing either the celeb gossip coverage was crowding out actual sports news, or the excessive cutaways were distracting from the games? And what was it that turned you around? Not trying to be a smartass, I’m genuinely curious.

Okay, so I hated it cause they really did make it about her. But now that the dust has settled and the teams that I wanted to win have lost, what’s left? I rooted for the Chiefs at last year’s Super Bowl, so I will be rooting for them again. And I do want Travis to be happy, and she seems to be doing that. Go Chiefs! Go Love!

Taylor Swift, 34, is an incredibly intelligent, talented powerhouse. Unlike Andrew "Dice" Clay, 66, who is a big dumb sack of bloated protoplasm.

And she’s been very successful and non-toxic for many years. She worked hard and she worked smart. Not a big fan of her music but I’m sure that doesn’t keep her awake at night. Gotta respect success in the music business.

Many thanks, MIB, Your words from the fainting couch have increased my understanding of the NFL, as decreed by MAGA:

1. Do not take a knee. 2. Do not drink Miller Lite, or is it Bud Lite?; 3. Blah, blah, blah about the Super Bowl halftime show. 4. Do not fall in love.

Miller is allowed, it's Bud Light that's verboten.

So I learned from a reliable source. But thank you!

I can't help but think a lot of this controversy is talking heads trying to newsjack anything that has to do with Taylor Swift because she has a massive audience, and controversy = clicks. I don't like assuming people are acting in bad faith but good lord this is all just so dumb.

It’s a never ending 24 hour news cycle. They oughta leave these kids alone.

Taylor Swift isn’t a kid she wants you to believe she is but she’s in her 30’s. When she engages in politics she will get pushback and it may destroy her remember the Dixie Chicks!

As usual, you hit nail on head. . I wish I was still young enough to believe in the power of a pop song, to be caught up in a band or a singer or an athlete or, hell, a politician. Alas, after meeting enough people, I’ve realized that most of them are just like me - ugh.

The more people you meet in life, the more you realize that most dogs are far superior beings to all humans.

Let me amend my comment on one subject. The power of music does still excite me. Lately, some of the late 60s early 70s songs (not pop rock fodder) shows how far we have not come in the USA. By Curtis Mayfield: “if there’s a hell below, we’re all gonna go” and Les McCann: “Compared to what? “ To name a couple of outstanding prophets (RIP) who called it as they saw it 50+ years ago, and we can now lament how far we have not come.

Expand full comment

Perhaps I should refer to Mayfield and McCann as “Estimated Prophets”, as John Barlow and Bobby Weir once wrote and sang about?
