The State, and particularly you and Thomas doing Barry and Levon, were exactly the comic team I needed - even more than the Schmenge Brothers on my other favorite sketch show. Thank you.
I'm kinda glad The State never made it "big", because as a fan, I feel like the member of a secret society. Authentic, non-pandering comedy was (and is!) either rare or inaccessible, so the weirdness was addictive to my 14-year-old self. I bought the DVD's as an adult (obviously, because that's when they came out), but unlike other commenters, I can't really watch them. I can't recreate that magical time in my life when The State was on. You can never go home, as they say. But I do smile every time I see a familiar name in credits :)
Depending on my mood, The State is in rotation as my favorite sketch show of all time with Mr. Show & The Kids in the Hall. All were similar in their approach and attitude. Punk rock, I believe it's the term I'm looking for.
I am a super fan of The State. I discovered the group on "You wrote it, You watch it" and have been a fan ever since. From Viva to Ed to Reno to Wet Hot to The Ten to Party Down to.... I have rarely missed a State member's project. Some people follow a sports team or something. Not me. It's always been you beautiful, brilliant people. Love to you and thank you for everything.
I don’t even remember most of the TV shows I watched in high school, and I certainly don’t quote them at random or follow their casts on social media. But not only am I here, I actually sent the monkey torture skit to a colleague this week because we were talking about primate research. *And* he got the reference.
I know The State may not have done everything you would have hoped, but the 11 of you created something eternal.
Sadly, my season 1 VHS went out with all the others a few years ago. Now I've got no place to put my balls.

I loved the state so much. I’m so thankful for what you did for me even if that was just to make me laugh and remember stupid stuff.
