Whenever I hear Jon Baptiste perform I wonder what planet chose to share him with us or which muse he is channeling. His talent is so beyond this watery orb. Thank-you for putting your thoughts out into the universe as well. Your writing invariably provides some respite from the stressors of life and at least a few pensive moments of reflection.
Cool piece Michael. Billie Eilish's "Chihiro" is my #1 played song of the year according to Amazon, which is interesting considering how tired and middle aged I am.
I also am a big fan of the bends... but have personally grown to love amnesiac as my favorite album in their catalogue.
The Bends is, and always will be, the best album in their catalogue. It’s one of the few sophomore albums that by far surpassed the first. Foo Fighters’ The Colour and the Shape is another example.
I majored in music (voice, opera), stayed away from performing for a decade, and am reclaiming my musical self in the last year or so. I'm doing that by singing the most metal Wagner tenor arias I can find ("Nothung, Neidliches Schwert" from DIE WALKÜRE is a real banger)
Below, enjoy composer and pianist Sir Stephen Hough (our names sound alike, so this is personal) playing Chopin's Nocturne Op. 9, No. 2.
Love that Chopin/Radiohead mashup. If you're digging the nocturnes, I recommend branching out to the mazurkas, wistful dances he wrote to keep his memories of Poland alive while living as a refugee in France.
I wrote about one of my favorites a few months ago — perfect listening for these dark, cold days at the end of the year.
Big Black Delta. It's a solo project by the guy that fronted Mellowdrone — lots in his music that I think you'd appreciate.
You're not just twee, you're the goddamn King of Twee.
Love love love that duet!
Here’s a cool peek into Jon’s home and where he draws inspiration

Jon Batiste is so brilliant. I adore his music
Baptiste equals genius.
A 35,000 year old flute---how fantastic is that! Is there anyone whose soul is not touched by music? If there is they can’t be called fully human.
Did you hear that a previously unknown Chopin waltz was just discovered in some old papers in a library?
Thank you for the Jon Baptiste video---wonderful.
Good music picks. Music apparently activates the same area of the brain as mathematics.
Our music is likely the sole expression humans might be remembered for throughout the cosmos after we're done.
Music is the best. We've got to get you into jazz, too.
Here's Brad Mehldau's trio on Exit Music, I've listened to this a million times:

Radiohead and Jon Batiste!
The man is a damn genius.
Any chance the hotel lost and found still has your pods? I live near and could get them and mail them somewhere.
That's nice of you. I contacted them and they said they'll get back to me but did not.
Some housekeeper is jamming out this holiday season. Mazel
