Now that the hurricane double whammy of Helene/Milton has knocked Florida on its ass, I feel like I’m starting to get a sense of what living with climate change actually looks like.
To paraphrase Shakespeare, “something is rotten in the state of Florida”. Several things, actually, but that stench of mendacity down there can be traced right back to the governor’s mansion. By the way, I’ve been enjoying you on ‘Have I Got News For You’ over on CNN, have since read up on you a little and eventually found my way to your posts here. Consider me a fan. Should you need a quick pick-me-up from the depressing state of the world, might I suggest this brief clip? There’s nothing quite as life-affirming as hearing your name pronounced over and over in a foreign accent. Lol. Stay safe, Florida!
2/3rds of my house is still standing. I am unable to leave my house as there are downed trees and power lines in front of and to the sides of my house. It is nice to not hear traffic but a little scary as we also can’t get supplies or assist others. I am safe and have enough food and water. I charge up my phones by using the mobile chargers in the truck or car. I am in a blue county and want to keep it that way. I am not a fan of the Governor. Thank you for calling him out. Last year and this year our county commissioners took 8 million from a 10million a year fun md for affordable housing to pay for roads and sidewalks.
No, it's not still a country when people don't care to contribute to the collective interest. But then again, were we ever really a true, unified country? The sole time that has come close to happening is WWII.
but everything else in our history....not so happy together.
I wish we could pass a law saying you can't get money from a bill you voted against. That would prevent those pols from the Rong voting to defund FEMA.
Too right. It's been a long time coming and finally the piper needs to be paid; federal relief dollars must be allocated with matching dollars allocated to nonemergency federal funding. In other words Medicaid gets funded, SNAP gets funded, Education gets funded, etc etc. If that's too stiff a price, there are bootstraps to be lifted.

You know what? That DID pick me up!
And a family of 11 were all killed by the storm. You can thank DeSantis for his denial to help his constituents.
foul weather socialists

Oh man, sorry to hear you got hit. Glad you're safe in the 2/3 of a home you still have. Thinking of you and everybody affected.
Damn straight...

That sign should have an asterisk that says "some restrictions apply."

An arrogant fool. Ya just can't fix stupid-there ain't no fix for it.
Great piece, Michael. Hypocrisy has never seemed to bother MAGA Floridians, and that won’t likely change as a result of all of this.

Brilliant.
Absolutely perfectly said.
