It’s the Fourth of July today, and while the state of our nation’s health may feel as precarious as that of our president, I am still going to celebrate the day.
Agree but disagree with the Liberty Bell caption. The Liberty Bell cracked BUT did not fail. We fixed it as best we could. If it cracks again, we can fix it
Very well written, sir. Happy belated 4th. Took a news break yesterday for my freedom.
Let’s take back our flag and think of ourselves as the “patriots“ since we believe in our country’s founding principles: equality, unalienable rights, the consent of the governed, the separation of church & state, and the goal to become a more perfect union. Our country has never been perfect, but we should always be moving in that direction.
“Enjoy your freedom.” My first thought after that was “While you still can.”
I wish I could be one of those people that never has any ill will towards others, but I feel very strongly about certain things which has quite often caused me to wish a lot of ill will towards a lot of people.
Trophy hunters? Send them out into the woods and jungles with no weapons and let nature have her revenge. Same with bullfighters. Try it empty handed you assholes. Child/spouse/animal abusers? Back alley with a half dozen MMA fighters and they would literally never be able to raise their fist to anyone again.
And in that same vein (but carefully worded) I can’t help but wonder how many people have ever choked to death on a Big Mac. Or been struck and killed by lightning while playing golf. Or died of a drug overdose while sitting on the toilet. (Besides Elvis.) These questions cross my mind occasionally. For no particular reason at all. None at all.
No fuckin lie; got caught in the stratford town parade trying to like stop at my parent's house, like 1 square mile away; absolute fucking twilight zone nightmare; very funny, but so scary how well this shit worked on EVERYONE; lolol I am actually public enemy number one in the area... oops? =)
"The irony of that original American freedom is that it wasn’t for all Americans, only those of the correct skin tone and genitalia."
...and socioeconomic status.
Absolutely your best essay yet.

Wanda, I’m absolutely there with you! If we can’t have the perk walk, then please (and soon!) may one of your scenarios play out.
Very well said and thought provoking. Has anyone ever told you that you’re a great writer? 😜

Our nation’s founding documents are family treasures that need every generation to take the utmost care of them.
Spot on. Let freedom reign!
Thank you. Let us vote to keep our democracy.
