All these shootings based upon stories people create in their minds. There’s no time to pause or use critical thinking in our culture. IMB’s pen is a better weapon.
One of my dearest friends in the world, who I first met in 1974 when we shared a class in the sixth grade, was murdered in 2008. Her husband’s stepbrother, who had a history of mental health issues, shot her in the face when she caught him going through their belongings in their bedroom. She died instantly. He is spending the rest of his life in prison. I don’t think I’ve ever felt such physical pain from anything in my life. It’s been over 15 years and I still get tears in my eyes whenever I think about her.
It’s the politicians accepting blood money while stoking the paranoia of their base and the NRA being greedy, soulless bastards and the gun manufacturers that pretend they’re just providing a service and the lack of mental health care and (I say this as a proud veteran) it’s the fucking guns.
To me, the strange thing is, the American right to bare arms was specific to the time in history, and specifically written to ensure that the citizenry, in lieu of a military, could jump in to prevent, I dunno, an act of sedition. Americans, over time, allowed this limited right to be a free for all, and for any and every purpose.
First, eliminate the illegal weapons. Then, crack down on crazies getting weapons. Then assess what’s left. Maybe nothing but law abiding guys and girls who train and secure their shit. Seriously, break it down. The weekend Chicago shootings are not with legal weapons.
Other way around. The massive volume of legally held weapons renders illegal guns meaningless. America would need to materially reduce legal gun ownership before even attempting to do anything about illegally held guns.
I follow Toby Moron (wordclown on Instagram) who will soon have a site, https://www.itsthefuckingguns.com/, dedicated to: “all politicians who continue taking blood money from The NRA. Each state will know which of their representative cowards puts guns over lives”
The only thing giving some home was the Supreme Court of Hawai’i last week telling scotus to stfu, that their horrendously short-sighting gun decision last year wouldn’t apply in Hawai’i. Read a good Bloomberg op-ed about it today. Hopefully we can start figuring out how it’ll get better.
Perfectly articulated! My favorite line: “When did we turn a document designed to be amended into a golden calf? “.
It’s the gun lobby and manufacturers who keep ramping up the numbers of sales by exploiting people’s paranoia. And unfortunately our legislators are too cowed (or paid off) to limit them. The absolute least they could do is to impose a substantial tax for every gun and ammo sold or traded. Another would be to fine the gun manufacturers for every death incurred by one of their guns.
Canadian here. No longer travel to US. Cannot trust that I wouldn’t be shot somewhere or other! Loved my skiing trips to US. No more until it’s fixed. Sorry.

Bravo!

Ummm. Americans were long ago desensitized. Otherwise you would have changed your laws and constitution by now.

Apt name.
Omg! Morton. Apologies
As Olbermann says, there's nothing in the second amendment about "ownership". Join the well regulated militia if you love guns so much.

For the record, I am not giving up.
Also thanks for "Why is it your freedom to carry a metal dick in your waistband ..."
