"Don’t get me wrong. I will vote for Joe Biden in the fall if he remains the candidate."

A true dumbass to the root.

The root of the problem is that in 2016 the Democrats decided that their raison d'etre was to "save democracy" by defeating Trump at the exclusion of everything else.

For one thing this a big turn off to everyone who isn't a die hard dem. For another, in their quest they decided that anyone perceived as oppositional/questioning within the party was a threat.

This meant that anyone who might have different opinions on basically anything was seen as weakening the cause (even mischaracterized as pro-Trump) and had to go. Pretty quickly anyone among the liberal intelligentsia with a spine was either rooted out or too scared to talk. Removing dissent from the ranks extended to literally removing political competition within the party. The DNC did not even hold primaries in many states (FL, NC) and blackballed anyone who ran against Biden (Dean Phillips, RFK JR).

So now we're in this place where the Democrats are operating like a cult formed in the image of Trump hatred. The only one left in the DNC are the type of people who will say or do whatever to advance their pathetic careers. The type of people who will happily lie about Biden's mental state and threaten the base with soviet-esque slogans such as "Democracy is on the ballet folks". The fact that so many dems will vote for a cadaver bc it isn't Trump enables this bullshit.

I used to be a Dem but this has to stop and it will only stop if the party self-inhalates when Biden loses. This corrupt, braindead party has been limping along for too long. If Biden wins it will be allowed to continue in it's current form. I really hate Trump but this shit has got to change and change comes from pain.

I agree with every word of this.

Nah. What a quitter. You see how they joined forced, lock-step behind felon Trump? Dems are weak. Battles aren't easy. This is a battle. You're weak. Really disappointing.

Maybe the DNC needs to remind everyone that they are not just voting for Biden, they are voting for all the competent people he's got in his administration vs. the multiple criminals that trump surrounded himself with. We all act like our President is a king when he is in reality an executive that delegates duties to people that they trust. I know I'd rather have Biden taking a nap knowing his administration is taking care of government in a manner that helps the people, than Trump, awake, throwing ketchup, manically micromanaging his administration to do what Putin demands.

You are all out of your fucking minds. You're going to vote for a turnip who has basically fucked the country by any metric you can imagine?

gas - fucked.

groceries - fucked.

housing - fucked.

Afghanistan - fucked.

Ukraine - fucked.

Israel - fucked.

China - fucked.

border - fucked.

fentanyl - fucked.

crime - fucked.

illegal aliens - fucked.

American wages - fucked.

healthcare - fucked.

There is nothing that isn't worse, or doesn't cost more under joe biden and he (or whoever has their hand up his ass to make his mouth move) accomplished all of this in less than 2 years.

And you want MORE of this because why? Because Orange Man bad? Orange Jesus isn't going to fix everything, but holy shit. ALL of this was better when Orange Man was president. And you're all still here shitting on him after his 4 years in office and not one of you is in the gulag. You're all brainwashed, useful little pawns.

Fuck all of you.

My friend, this isn't the place for that kind of vitriol.

Expand full comment

It's not vitriol - it's fact.

You should be deeply ashamed of this and yet you have no shame. You also have no answer because what I said was true. You're all sitting there talking about how you're so afraid of Trump being a dictator, yet he was already the president for 4 years, while you said the same things you're saying now, and you're not in prison. Every metric that I listed was better when Trump was the president and was catastrophic 2 years into biden's presidency. All you have is Orange man bad. And I'm not even saying that you don't have valid criticisms of Trump. I'm not a huge fan either, but if you're trying to tell me that you're going to vote for that puddle of sick that was on TV last night to be the president for the next four years because Orange man bad, you're are exactly what I said you are. A brainwashed useful idiot.

Isn't it amazing Aaron!!! The only way we can win is get rid of this asshole Joe Biden with any swinging dick. We have two choices: RFK or DT.

Either one will work!

This is the type of honesty the democrats need if they want to save the democracy like they’re claiming. Fear mongering isn’t going to work under these conditions.

Bus drivers go through more tests than president, and they are responsible only for 50 people at a time. How a president is allowed to mentally decline into “emperor’s new clothes” situation?

Is there a job that he would be able to get approved for? Not bus driver for sure, not manager in fast food, not even waiter. I can’t come up with a job this person would be able to do.

Obama would never go against austerity like Biden has but at least he could hold his own on TV

Expand full comment

Last night was an unmitigated disaster. One wonders why Biden and his advisors even wanted to hold debates with Trump, who knows how to strut for the TV audience. Having said that, if Biden can pivot and start making televised strong & effective speeches soon, he could still turn this around. He is the complete opposite of Trump in every way and his humanity, compassion and hard work needs to be front and center, juxtaposed against Trump, the “ME first” candidate, who doesn’t give a damn about anyone else, and he doesn’t care who he stomps on or bombards everyone with never ending lies for his own grandiose goals.

I love Jamie Raskin and he’d make a fabulous President, but there’s no way this country (ie, red state voters) will vote for a Jew. Wish it were not so, but let’s get real.

That’s not relevant paradigm in having a legitimate and true representative of “we the people“ as an executive. The Democratic Party will not hold their own accountable and nominate candidates any different than the GOP office. Only the eight or nine members of Congress, of which are Democrats other than Bernie that do not except corporate lobbyist palm grease, are legitimate. No one else. No matter the party affiliation. I know some of them. Senator Whitehouse, Sen Warren, representative Katie Porter, Sen Hirono. Also the complete ostracizing of not only that small group but Marianne Williamson. Until Democratic constituents nominate legitimate candidates, they have no standing on this particular topic. You are correct in terms of his character and the demographics being resistant. I have to give you that. It would be a great choice for any office.

Trump didn't even need to strut. They just put a camera on Biden, let him talk, and he voluntarily hung himself up there.

It's also becoming increasingly obvious that Biden isn't the compassionate, selfless guy he presents himself to be. If he cared about the common good he would have stepped aside when the majority of dem voters said they didn't want him 1 yr+ ago. He's clearly a raging narcissist just like Trump, Pelosi, RBG, McConnell and every other octogenarian who refuses to release power.

It's also pretty common knowledge that Biden is a dick to work for behind closed doors. He's arrogant and dismissive to his staff. The folksy thing is an act.

Read state voters aren’t relevant. Neither are the undecided.

There is only one single demographics any party needs to be courting.

The 40-80 million registered nonvoters.

Neither parties addresses it because it would take legitimate governance to be inspired to participate.

David Axelrod and Barack Obama knew this. How do you think a black man, no matter how smart and well spoken became president of this racist Third World shit hole? He motivated 8% of that demographic to show up. 90% of them voted for him.

There’s a reason David Axelrod and Barack Obama had kept the DNC at arms length. To implement any hope or change, they had to win first.

Sadly, the DNC is nothing but a millionaire beggars club. Made up of political neophyte amateur operatives.

No less morally bankrupt than the GOP

Joe Biden was done in 2016. Nominating the 22nd ranked candidate of 23 in the field has consequences.

Nominating the wrong person is what Dem Party constituents do.

That's funny. I became an Italian dual citizen during the TRump reign of chaos with the same idea. Spent the pandemic in Italy, but unfortunately they're being run by neo-fascists now. The upside is the inexpensive great food and wine and beautiful surroundings. It's a fabulous place to visit for a few months, but I'm staying here and fighting like hell to keep our democracy.

Raskin isn’t going to be the choice. If it isn’t Biden it has to be VP Harris. The dems won’t turn out the voters they need to turn out if they pass over a woman of color who is the sitting VP to choose a white man who has never been on a national ticket. The trouble is that the VP isn’t likely to win either. So sticking with Biden is probably still the best chance to win.

Why aren’t people in the news in particular are talking more about what Trump didn’t say about his policies? Why aren’t they focusing more on just the straight out lies. Talking about how poorly Biden did OK so Biden did poorly but that doesn’t make Trump a genius far from it.

Because the story last night was Biden. That's the truth. From the moment he walked out, he seemed off. Trump defended his policies with lies and vigor, which will defeat stats and befuddlement every single time. No, Trump isn't a genius. He's a fucking moron who didn't have some amazing debate or anything. It doesn't matter. The central question on the table for Biden last night was, "Are you up for another years?" and the resounding answer was "No."

Trump was the same lying liar telling lies and lying about the lies he’s told. Biden managed to rebut many of his lies, but the presentation by Joe made me think…Biden needs to sit down. He looks tired.

Nobody is focusing on trumps lies today because that’s not the story. That’s old news. Biden’s “Girl with the faraway eyes” stare was the news.
