I'm also convinced (despite the flinching reluctance of most large-audience media) that the DNC broke MAGA. They're just beheaded chickens now, flapping around autonomously, not having the sense to lie down and perish. (They will spend gobs more Citizens United and grift-harvested money trying to prove they're still gonna peck the Dems to death any day now, even as their bloated, glassy-eyed head looks up soullessly from the dusty MAL carpet.)
Harris-Walz did get a post-convention bounce. Trump did not. RFKJ is out, having finally admitted what we all knew: He's a genuine weirdo who's found his tribe. Trump has forgotten who his running mate is. (I only wish the rest of us could.) Harris's stock, momentum, polls, and finances are a skyrocketing.
I watched much more of the convention than I expected to as well. It felt like that hammer-throwing Apple Macintosh commercial on the 1984 Super Bowl, shattering the old regime, destroying its media hold on our minds.
MAGA has been broken, along with their politics of hate. Anytime I hear one of their squawking bleats from now on, all I'll hear is "flap, flap, flap."
Do we need to worry about post-election shenanigans, such as non-certification of election results? I suggest an FBI investigation into all who have that power. Lock up those who are found to be potential traitors to their oath of office, and have them in custody by Nov 4.
If that ‘person’ is elected for a second term, it'll be a disaster for the entire western world and beyond. We in Europe are rooting (and praying) for Kamala to be victorious 🙏
of this and more. My husband and I had been working for a Democratic victory well before President Biden stepped aside. It was stressful.
Now it’s a joy to make those efforts - zooming, , phone banks, writing post cards, addressing envelopes, engaging with neighbors. I ask nearly everyone I encounter throughout the day if they plan to vote, not asking for whom. Most people say yes, and most emphatically want me to know it’s for Kamala. (Women are truly fired up.).
It was interesting that Kamala herself didn’t make a point of being the first woman, in the White House. She had so much to say it went without saying.
You captured the dichotomy of her speech quite well. Thank you for articulating it in your own words. I felt reassured last night that she is the person for whom I will vote for President.
I hadn’t really planned either, but I did watch last night and the Obamas (the latter on YT). I was struck by the joy and hope. I asked my husband if he thought the GOP convention was the same, because I doubt it was. It was a rhetorical question. Unfortunately, voter suppression in Georgia and Arizona was given a boost this week. Every damn woman and marginalized group needs to make sure they can vote … and then do so. I actually wanted Harris to be the 2020 nominee, so I was very happy she nailed it last night. Smart, funny, beautiful, and with a “tough on crime” background they can’t attack. 💃🏻🤞
She definitely rallied her base, but the hard work is still Imahead. We can’t afford to be lackadaisical. The electoral college does not favor the Democrats, gerrymandering is real, the undecideds are probably all still undecided, there will be lies and conspiracies, false accusations and personal attacks. And not a lot of people are talking about the likelihood that the election will end up in the courts. Then it’s a total crapshoot. But this is the boost we needed, and she was awesome last night.
Yes! I feel like we slipped back into the good timeline somehow, where joy is reasonable, hope makes sense, and words have meaning. I’m … happy?

"This is Kamala’s presidency to win, but, if she does, it is all of our responsibility to keep her honest and accountable."
This is a really key point and I appreciate you including it.
If that ‘person’ is elected for a second term, it'll be a disaster for the entire western world and beyond. We in Europe are rooting (and praying) for Kamala to be victorious 🙏
Yes, Michael, all

As I watched last night I was filled with the same conviction that she’s going to win. Incredible end to a surprisingly rousing convention. 🎈

Hard agree on every single point.
Agreed about Mark Kelly. I originally thought he might be rhetorical best running mate but now I understand why she chose Walz
The Senate can’t afford to lose Mike Kelly which is why I think she didn’t choose him.
I feel like crying every day but not just because of the perimenopause anymore. #Joy
