Hi Ian,

Cleaning up my email….can you give me a definition of “transpeople”?

Yes, people who are transgendered.

Nicely done, Mike. :)

I've read that 80% of the gunpowder used by the Revolutionary forces was of French origin...

Je ne sais rien either, but I won't abandon hope for liberté, egalité et fraternité coming out on top this November. We're being played by the corporate press and MSM with another version of "but her emails" and I think a lot of people see that.

This is outstanding. Thanks for a little bit of clarity and sunshine.

A light in a sea of doom & gloom over the last week. Thank you for sending this light.

I arrived at the conclusion some time ago that I know nothing. It's not as comforting as I had hoped...

Michael your writing articulates my feelings eloquently. Thank you so much for being a voice, it gives me hope that there is a tribe of likeminded people.

I also enjoy your Obscure podcast. It’s a great respite from listening to the news in the car

And just like that, hope is kindled in my heart. YOU did that, and I thank you.

Either one of our choices only get four years and both are done. And I don't think the majority of my fellow citizens *really* want what the far right is selling, so it's possible even if it all goes badly, people will stand up for liberty, justice and equality and right the ship. A positive article on our sea of anxiety, thank you.

The four years thing is true, thankfully, but I remain highly concerned about the Trump effect on the GOP once Trump is gone. They've seen the enormous power of populism. Do they have the courage to turn away?

Expand full comment

No, they do not. Hope springs eternal but hoping the voters and electors will suddenly embrace Biden and reject Trump is not going to happen.

I have no idea. My hope, such as it is, isn't that voters will suddenly embrace Biden. I don't think that's possible. BUT France gives me some hope that there are enough people who recognize the unique threat of MAGA that they will vote to defeat it again.

My hope as well. Here in NC, in the governor's race, we have our own carnival barker versus a committed public servant who has delivered tangible results for the people of the state. In the AG's race, we have a dedicated MAGA ideologue versus a first term US house rep who's managed to engender good will across a broad swath of the ideological spectrum, no small feat these days. Just like trump versus literally anything less rancid than him, the choice could not be more clear. I just hope enough people see it.

In NC you have Anderson. Clayton, who is an incredible firecracker and the youngest chair of the state’s democratic party, at just 25 years. She is working to have a candidate for every open seat, going deep canvassing into the rural areas and is driving optimism among the ranks.

There will be much more info. about Project 2025 this summer…..Jamie Raskin & Jared Huffman (my representative in Congress) are heading the task force and will disseminate the atrocities in that 900+ page tome. There’s very few people who won’t be adversely impacted if the Project (i.e., DT’s platform) gets implemented.

I have not been paying enough attention to Anderson Clayton, I'll admit. I did see that the NC Dems are running someone for US in my district, but I haven't seen or heard much from him which is a little disconcerting (it's a pretty safely red district, but still.) But overall I think I'm seeing more Stein adverts than Robinson, and I think Jeff Jackson is such a powerful force (especially compared to Dan Bishop) that he'll win over some of the more center-right voters here. So there's some hope for us, I think. I hope.

France got lucky. Maybe we will too.

The GOP has spent at least the past 40 years planning and posturing to eliminate Roe. Ted Cruz and others were “selected” as one of the leaders of this effort as far back as college. The Federalist Society is your friend.

That’s called playing the long game.

I am sensing just the tiniest bit of optimism here. If I’m wrong don’t tell me. 🙉

Well done Michael 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Love it. Refreshing optimism when every news outlet has an approximation of “BIDEN IN TROUBLE” as their headline story still this morning.

This is an accurate yet very frustrating summation. I heard something on the radio about project 2025 and people not being informed enough about it. I muttered to myself something like "probably because all you're talking about is Biden's debate performance." I could practically see the guy in the hotdog suit trying to find the guy who did this.

It couldn’t be better said, Michael. Also, I love the word “miasma”. Extra points. Edit: I’m also a dedicated hand wringer as well. I will give some friendly advice to save your hands from excessive wringing until November. Pacing also works and gives your hands a break.
