There is no "right" or "wrong" side of history. History is an inherently objective practice. If people ascribe their personal feelings onto it, it's opinion and not history.
Love this line “I am convinced living empathetically is a far better overall way to approach life than its opposite. Empathy certainly can be painful but it’s a far superior way to comport one’s self than sociopathy.”
I do love your naivety, Ian, truly. Also, just watched your “I’ve got news for you!” Meh, so far, but I think it will be better if they give you more air time. I think you deserve it!
Lying here in my bed in Jerusalem, I was wondering what you were going to say about The Middle East. I agree with going with empathy, 100%, but what that means is not always obvious.
Recently I said to a friend, I believe in a small war if it prevents a big war. That’s basically why I support Israel’s actions now, even though they are causing terrible suffering.
You and I might not have the answer, the nuts and bolts answers, to these problems...but I think you are outlining something closer to an answer.
We have obscene inequality in this country (not to mention the inequality of this country and her peers to the world) and the behavoir needed to make it so. So maybe the outline to the answer is a negative answer – we need less of that disregard of others in this world. Would that put us on the right side of history? Beats me. I mean we could all start growing goatees and wearing daggers and regard for others would be on the wrong side of the mirror - err history.
This was a good one. Nice work, Michael. If only more of us could think about how to apply empathy in a more practical sense in our daily lives, we'd no doubt, all be better off.
But resources are not limited! We produce enough food we could feed the world many times over. All that scarcity mindset is for keeping control over population.
“I would favor policies that redistribute that wealth somewhat, but not in its entirety.”
Except Elon. Take every last penny from that sanctimonious sonofabitch.
Happy New Year. Lead with love.

Fantastic inspired piece. Thank you Michael.
A wonderful way to describe empathy and psychopathy. It makes sense to lead with love always.

Why naive? And why do you call me "Ian"?

Amen brother. Great piece!
Really great piece Michael.❤️

“How do we allocate limited resources?”
…or, asked another way…
“Who gets how much of that two hundred and forty dollars worth of pudding?”
((great post, Michael))
