I’m so behind on reading all of my favorite Substacks (yes, Michael, you are one of my favesies!) so I apologize for this late ass comment, but I just needed to say:
Dann it, I wanted you to introduce us to your Bangladeshi interns. You built it up, only to let us down. I know that's consistent with every other newsletter, but this one time I thought you were going to deliver. 😞
You are giving away a service that is worth something to many people, and it is completely fair to gently suggest that readers compensate you for that if they can. I have always appreciated the content you create, and I feel good about supporting it.
This is definitely the Substack I read most often, so, here I go. Your guilt worked on me! (Also, it's good karma in case I ever start my own Substack...)
You should also do an annual reminder to your readers of Obscure, another project of yours of which I’ve been a long time subscriber.
For those unaware, it’s a Patreon supported project where Michael reads and comments upon obscure literature (of which 1/2 are absolutely, definitively American novels). I like to think that everything in his career has led him to this, his greatest contribution to mankind.
If I can give David and Ken 25 bucks or so to split with like fifteen other people every few months to watch them play cover songs, I can certainly give you 5. Thanks, Michael! It's a better world with you in it.
And I can’t stop commenting. Your written prose is as funny if not more funny than you in person. You’re my new favorite commenter. Especially since there really is no real news anymore. Show him the money!
I don’t know why, but you were always the member of THE STATE that stood out. Before you started this sub, the only times I’d see you since then were on vh1 type things. What a waste of your tremendous comedic and acting ability. I’m sorry that your followers here don’t inspire Hollywood to cast you in a leading role. You’re a funny mofo. Sorry I missed the Austin show but I was engaged in family caretaking. I would have loved to have bought you dinner.
Don’t forget. You lured me in and kept me with your Saul Berenson career advice. I ain’t retired yet but now I understand why. That’s when I paid up. Far cheaper and far more productive than a shrink.

I love your dog’s face.
That is all. Carry on! 😊

I’m already subscribed so was able to enjoy this funny and well-written post with very little guilt. 🤗
Alright, you guilted me into it. The money goes to a starving kid in Africa, right?

It really is the finest literary analysis available anywhere, at any price.
To put it mildly.

I encourage all who enjoy the musings of Michael as much as I do to subscribe. Help a brother out. He brings commiseration to my day.

Subscribed, now stfu already!
JK, thanks for all you do!
Well played Michael! I do enjoy your wit and humor and agree with it once in awhile. Enough at least to add to your hat!!
