I agree with every word of this beautiful truth bomb. Except for one thing: YOU (and thus, WE) are not the ones with Trump Derangement Syndrome. Nuh-uh.

I find myself thinking “At least W wasn’t actively trying to be evil, usually,” and that’s a pretty fucking low bar.

So yes, I suspect it’s biologically impossible that he isn’t farting repeatedly in court .

Sarah, I’ve been saying for years that I never believed W was actually evil. I think he really was trying to do what he thought was best. Unfortunately he surrounded himself with people who had zero interest in doing good. On the other hand, Cheney, the murderous cyborg, absolutely oozed evil. I hope he enjoys spending eternity with Kissinger.

Completely agree with every word of that.

My personal opinion aligns with yours - W isn't a bad person, just dumb and easily led by the nose by two legit sociopaths, Cheney and Rumsfeld, who dreamed of invading the Middle East for decades. W is more culpable than them, however, because he was the boss.

I talked about this a few years ago on Twitter and Richard Marx agreed with me. Obviously the three of us need to hang out together. Or, probably, just you two.

You are expressing a frustration and an anticipation felt by many, including me. How can Trump have gotten away with his simplistic scams for so very long? Even scamming his way into the White House? And even more outrageously, how can so many Americans have been duped into supporting him ? Back then, and even still?

I haven't had the stomach to keep up with the day-to-day of the trial, not because I am not curious, but because I fear that it will all be build up to nothing; no guilt verdict, no justice. Plus I have a genuine fear that he could still win the 2024 election even if convicted, which sadly says more about America than it does about Trump.

Michael, today’s essay is pure gold! I’ve been waiting for Drump (I refuse to write his name) to have a fatal coronary since his first day in the WH, possible sooner. Amazing he hasn’t yet, but we can keep hoping. In the meantime, you’re right, it’s very satisfying to see him hunched and glum and reprimanded.

Not super related but possibly charming, the title of this post reminds me of a joke I heard from Michael Showalter:

What do you call it when an excited young dog relieves itself on a J. Crew catalog?

Peppy Preppy Puppy Poopy

Every day I arise with a sense of hope- hope that when I open my news feed I’ll learn that Trump choked on a cheeseburger or stroked out or suffered (yes, suffered) a massive cardiac arrest or succombed at the hands of a desperate lefty activist or maybe blew a courtroom fart so massive as to cause a fatal GI hemorrhage on live TV.

Fatal fart hemorrhage in court would be the most fitting way for him to go.

“Why the fuck did Omarosa work there???”

Didn’t Trump fire her from the Apprentice? But she was good enough to work in the White House? Make it make sense!

And then who do we vote for? Really? In a nation with so many talented people why have we wound up with these two?

I'm not sure why there's so much hate for Biden. He's passed a number of popular things (CHIPS Act, Infrastructure Act, the IRA which is the biggest investment in renewal energy ever). He appointed one of the most favorably viewed Supreme Court justices in Justice Jackson. He did this with a narrow House majority and a 50-50 Senate. That seems like a lot of talent right there. His student debt proposal was struck down by the Supreme Court and he couldn't get universal pre-k through the Senate. There is something to be said, though, for the talent of effectively communicating with the public and, on that front, he's not in the same tier of an Obama, Reagan, or Clinton.

I agree. Biden is truly our most progressive President. His State of the Union Address was the best; especially how he handled the despicable hecklers.

That is my new favorite sentence ever written in the English language. I bow to you. :-)
