With the usual caveat that I am almost always wrong when it comes to matters of political prognostication, I’ve come to believe that the coming year is going to be even worse than my fellow lefties expect.
Re: “Nobody whose survived with him that long is likely to serve as anything than an expediter for his autocratic impulses.”
The best we can hope for is that this woman (who I know nothing about) will leverage the burst trashbag of personality defects and act as “new mommy who loves me and says I’m so smart”. To steer this toddler away from shaving the cat with a kitchen knife by convincing him that her saner idea was his idea all along and everyone, all the best people, say it’s brilliant. If he can be manipulated with flattery for chaotic evil then I think he can be manipulated with flattery for less evil. Or neutral evil.
I'm hoping the Biden administration and ALL the little admin offices downstream, thousands of them, leave obstacles in the way of the incoming twerps. Missing computer keys, power turned off, no coffee machines, offices filled to the brim with millions of files with signs 'READ ME FIRST' or my personal favorite, line the floor up to about 2 feet high with plastic and then fill the room with Jell-O. Or just wall off the doors to rooms as if the office itself doesn't exist. Trump isn't looking like he used to; he looks ill and out of interest in the whole thing. The bravado of 'haha, Biden was nice to me, the schmuck' is quickly turning into 'I don't have enough friends I can really trust to pull this off and I'm afraid of windows'; he'd REALLY rather be golfing. Whoops, the SS told him they can't protect him at the golf course anymore. Life's no fun anymore when the pussies are all avoiding your grabs and you're a famous limp dick in any event. And that friendship with Leon looks to be going sour already (when is he GOING HOME?) and JD and that billionaire guy, a REAL billionaire, are plotting something for sure. His paranoia is ramping up full tilt, he hasn't had an ego rally in weeks and he's feeling the pressure.
Even more fun for We the People, bird flu H5N1 will hit just in time for him to declare it's yet another hoax and nuthin' to worry about here - with an estimated 50% lethality rate in humans... Bannon is going to get his shitshow, that's for sure. But one truism above all else - ETTD, sooner or later. At least Rudy's a ray of sunshine lately.
You're spot on with this assessment. It's chilling. They learned the first time not to fuck around with incompetence or anti-loyalists who will try to tame the idiot. we're fucked.
This is gonna be sheer chaos and destruction.. will there even be another election?? Who knows!! We are is so much trouble not just in this country but the entire geopolitical system is going to be turned on its head because of selfish egotistical politicians and a dumbing down of the masses. Dystopian world ahead!
As a pragmatist, Pollyannas drives me nuts. Chicken littles drive me nuts. My gut says this will be a global shit show of enormous proportions. His suck-up misfits of questionable integrity ensure that their scorched Earth policy will put Gingrich's scorched Earth in the category of a votive candle. There will be winners, the upper 1% of the 1%. The moderate wealthy will be pacified through smoke and mirrors, but in the end, they will also lose.
Maybe litigation can put up temporary barriers, but they will be torn down.
The passivity of the Biden administration bothers me right now. The "Oh, well," attitude when disaster looms emphasizes the weakness of Democrats. None of us want any laws to be broken, but taking the law to its edge shouldn't be dismissed. The GOP has played dirty for over 70 years. The Democratic Party dips its toe into the boat rocking then it pulls back. "We are so sorry."
I haven't healed from the choices of neighbors. I can't look into people's eyes because I don't trust their sense of right or wrong. Going shopping has become stressful because others don't care about the rules of law. I must presume they would break laws to get ahead or get their way if they voted for leaders who were known criminals. And they did.
My GA State Senator, Sean Still, is a fake elector who, in 2020, altered federal documents and was a leader in the Stop the Steal movement. He faced criminal federal charges and was reelected to serve again. A crook. My Representative in DC is a known MAGA crook who owns gun stores in Athens, GA. No one represents me. Now everything appears headed to the shitter.
It is. Those who are not perceive that educated, erudite people laud over them. That's doesn't endear us to them.
Education doesn't have to be formal. There are those who read and listen because they want to know. Maybe not enough, but they exist.
Critical thinking should be taught from middle school on. The modern world requires that skill. When I was in high school we were told those skills would be taught in college. And it was.
Only 33% of American voters have a undergraduate or advanced degree. That's not many, so 6th - 12th grades need to approach education quite differently today.
I agree, I see people differently now. Knowing who they voted for makes a difference. I live in a blue state that almost turned red this time. Mindboggling.
Great write up, but I'd like to say that the blitzkrieg ultimately didn't work. Maybe I'm being optimistic or naive, yet our institutions have to be stronger than the efforts of a bunch of incompetent dunderheads and can thwart attempts of ruin because bureaucrats are more stubborn. For now, as the British did, I plan to bunker down, keep calm, and carry on. And to be hyperbolically subtle, eventually, as I say in my best Churchill impression, "We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender. And even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the Old."
I truly hate living in some kind of Marvel comic universe. Or, if you believe some, we are living in a simulation, and this DLC sucks! Thumbs down. Anyway, back to reality. My take on this is if thousands of people lose their jobs, it will have an impact on the economy. There aren't enough jobs for them to go to, so these folks he wants to "drain from the swamp" will lose homes, or at best, stop spending money -- no restaurants, no discretionary spending and that's all going to trickle down into our economy. There really is no upside to mass firings. And of course, deporting all these other folks that are working, again, no spending and they supply the labor that supplies most of our food. We are just recovering from COVID economic hell, now something new? And as your other fans have noted, the lack of payments to various individuals through chaos among the check issuers -- again, no dinners out, new cars, online shopping sprees because government checks didn't arrive to retirees who take cruises and spend money. So those industries lay off people, more jobless. Not to mention treating the needy like shit. And what about Section 8 vouchers and SNAP? Landlords count on those for people to pay rent, and families need to eat. Now there's just more homeless and hungry people. All in the name of what? Efficiency?
Don’t you just have to believe that all that niceness is/was a formality ? I think there are plans being laid for that incoming team - it was just all too nice
well, maybe you are right but heres how I see it. massive disruption to the federal gov's daily operations will impact, pensions/retirement, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, the military, the food chain and I could go on. Add to that the pushback from the 2M fed employees and their unions along with a large number of retirements and resignations that will throw the whole system into chaos. The problem with your theory is that Trump had to grab this bull by the horns and gets its attention. A task I believe he and his merry band of idiots are too incompetent to accomplish. Add to that millions of REALLY PISSED OFF AMERICANS (no support, no SS, no Medicare, etc) and it will be a formidable battle to watch from the sidelines. next the economy will be severely impacted and you have Wall Street freaking out and possibly that recession everyone one has been crediting Biden with that never happened. then there will be the impact on labor due to the tossing of aliens from the country and a subsequent spiraling of inflation...upward. In short, I see a BOATLOAD OF PISSED OFF AMERICANS in Trumps future.
I agree in general terms, which is why I wrote the bit about the political and administrative agendas potentially coming into conflict. Which will they prioritize?
Should never have pushed Biden out.
I completely agree with your assessment of the situation.
When do you think we can stop paying taxes without worry of anyone noticing?

I have been reading many political scare pieces lately, but at least yours also makes me chuckle while raising the hair on the back of my neck:
“a rogues gallery of ambitious weasels reeking of eau de fuckface”
PERFECT!

I admire your optimism midterms will occur in two years.

“Trump and His Team Are Laughing At Biden’s Commitment to Decorum”
This is why I was relieved and delighted to hear yesterday that President Biden pardoned his son Hunter. Enough was enough.
