Elon Musk is threatening to sue the Anti-Defamation League for pressuring advertisers not to advertise on Twitter, saying that it’s the ADL’s fault that the social media site has lost about 60% of ad revenue since Musk took charge. He goes further, saying ““To clear our platform’s name on the matter of anti-Semitism, it looks like we have no choice but to file a defamation lawsuit against the Anti-Defamation League … oh the irony!”
Wow. Interesting take on Twitter the changes made since Elon Musk took over and made it what it was originally a free speech forum. Can some of that speech be hateful,sure, but by baring it you are stifling all perspectives but your own. You cannot say then it is a free speech forum. Maybe you don't want that, only one way of looking at the world should be presented. We'll I guess you could chose that but Twitter/X was never intended to be for one point of view. Musk is also aggressively unfunny. His efforts at humor defy descriptions like cringeworthy or embarrassing, and instead provoke a sense of nausea and even dread. He’s encouraged to continue making these attempts by his small army of idolators who lap it up every chance they get. It’s trivial next to the hate and invective he cheers on, but it does complete the picture of his personality as unabashedly repugnant.
I’m so pissed off at what he’s done to twitter. It’s my only social media and I’ve been there longer than he has. A year ago I was determined to wait him out but I honestly don’t know how much longer I can do this. It makes me angry and sad.
Musk seems to really be proud of himself for recognizing irony in, he believes, being defamed by an org with "anti-defamation" in its name. But he's missing the more important irony, which is him, of all people, threatening to sue for what is, essentially, the exercising of free speech -- something he wines about incessantly, and uses as his go-to excuse for defending and perpetuating hate speech. I once received valuable advice from a mentor when I was working in the industry: "When someone comes to you with an issue, first find out whose problem it is and put them in charge. If it is your own problem, still find someone else to put in charge." The American authoritarian nationalists have tried many trial balloons: Mexicans, Muslims, gay people in general and now trans kids (horribly, that one seems to stick for many Americans.) But blaming Jews never goes out of fashion. They have 2000 years of crazy bullshit to use as material. And Musk shows exactly who he is with: the authoritarian nationalists. I don’t disagree with you, James, but sometimes mere mortals with above-average IQs can’t see the visions that masters of humanity like Elon can. Certainly, Elon has proved his virility by birthing so many kids, and now it’s time for him to show all of us human poseurs what a real man like him really is. Zuckerberg is busy looking for his Harry Potter wand right now, and his lucky Frodo ring, but he does look buff and like he has been training and appears to be in as fighting of a shape as he will ever be.
