That message appeared on my Twitter feed today right after I reposted an interview conducted by Mike Wallace with Major Donald Keyhoe in 1958 regarding “flying saucers.” As the United States Congress prepares to hold open hearings on the topic this week, I thought I might take a moment to discuss why I’m interested in this phenomenon.
Have you read The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin? I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi, but I was really sucked into this one. Existential questions have always occupied my mind to the point of desperately needing to watch/read/listen to something silly and comedic to keep the angst at bay. You are my people.
I was just about to mention this trilogy too! (The trilogy is named Remembrance of Earth’s Past.) They’re some of the most imaginative and terrifying sci-fi books I’ve ever read. The “dark forest hypothesis” is the most compelling answer to Fermi’s paradox I know.
For “sense of wonder” about things I can’t understand (like quantum anything), I recommend Blake Crouch’s novels.
Another excellent essay that captures the thoughts of many of us. So glad I have this to read near every day!

It's on my list. Definitely going to read.
